Fort Seward will have you marching through the exact same footprints as the soldiers did when the US government established a military presence at the missionary settlement of Haines, don’t forget to grab the self-guided walking brochure to help you maneuver through the history.  While you are in the fort, look for the Sculpture Garden, which highlights the historic and creative community inspired gallery.  

Haines is surrounded by totem poles that are carved out of wood, these carvings may symbolize or commemorate ancestors, cultural beliefs that recount familiar legends, clan lineages, or notable events. Pick up a pamphlet that tells the story of each totem pole and their location.
