Mark your calendars! The Chilkat Challenge Triathlon is back for 2025, taking place on Saturday, May 24th—the same weekend as the highly anticipated Great Alaska Craft Beer Festival in Haines. What a perfect way to work hard, push your limits, and then reward yourself with some craft beer tasting afterward!

This triathlon isn’t your average race. Set in the stunning Chilkat Valley, participants will paddle, bike, and run through the heart of one of Alaska’s most scenic landscapes. Whether you're a seasoned triathlete or a weekend warrior looking for a new challenge, the Chilkat Challenge promises an unforgettable experience.

A Unique Challenge for All Fitness Lovers

The Chilkat Challenge Triathlon features a 38.5-mile course consisting of three dynamic legs:

• 9-mile paddle across Mosquito Lake and down the Chilkat River
• 22-mile bike ride through the Bald Eagle Preserve along the scenic Haines Highway
• 5.5-mile run from Fort Seward Parade Grounds to the Letnikof Cove Pavilion at the mouth of the Chilkat River

The course is designed to showcase the beauty of the Chilkat River, with towering snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and the chance to spot bald eagles, moose, or maybe even a grizzly bear!

Racers can compete in several divisions:

• Solo Man
• Solo Woman
• Two-Person Team
• Three-Person Team

Whether you want to take on the entire race solo or team up with friends for a shared experience, there’s a division for everyone.

Enjoy the Great Alaska Craft Beer Festival After the Race

Once you cross the finish line, it’s time to unwind at the Great Alaska Craft Beer Festival happening the same weekend! After all that hard work, relax and enjoy award-winning beers from local brewers. It’s the perfect way to celebrate your accomplishment and kick back with fellow racers and beer enthusiasts.

After the race, head to the Letnikof Cove Pavilion for the finish line, dinner, and the awards banquet. It’s here you’ll get to enjoy delicious food, celebrate your accomplishments, and receive some amazing prizes for your hard work.
