A snowy holiday is a lot of fun and Haines has the playground for your dream vacation while joining in on the December Christmas holiday events. We start off with lighting of the library and the community tree in November. Local bazaars will make your gift giving a little easier, always something for everyone and enjoy meeting the artist. Our street lamps will have a little extra sparkle, along with the skies when our fireworks display brings out the magic. The lighting of the Fort is an evening event in the middle of the Fort Seward Parade Grounds with a blast from the historical cannon, bring your sled and enjoy a little hot chocolate and bonfire. Enjoy the carol-off contest and make sure to find out what the theme is for our holiday parade, you may just want to join in and have the seat next to the big guy in the red suit. Not only do we light up our boats down at the harbor but our town puts up their best decorations to compete in the decorating contest, take a drive or walk around and take in all the Christmas light displays. Don't forget to pack your winter gear and passport so you can drive the Haines Highway and go into Canada where the Chilkat Pass offers miles and miles of snow covered mountains for your exploring pleasure.
