  • January 19-21, 2018- Alcan 200
    International snow machine race from the U.S. Canadian border to Dezadeash Lake and back on the
    Haines Highway.  Calcutta is Friday night, Saturday the race and on Sunday the snow drags will take place.  For more information, contact 766-3775 or web site www.alcan200.org/sign up. 
     
  • January, 2018- Haines Dolphins' Winter Games North, Haines Pool

  • February, 2018 - Youth Raptor Program Kicks Off
    Young people ages 9 to 17 are invited to participate in the American Bald Eagle Foundation's "Youth Raptor Program." Classes are held on Saturdays at the Foundation through April. For more information call 907-766-3094 or programs@baldeagles.org.

  • March, 2018 - Swatch Freeride World Tour, Haines, Alaska?
    Pro skiers and snowboarders take on the challenging terrain in the Chilkat Valley during their Alaska stop.  This tour spans five countries and will be webcast live on http://freerideworldtour.com/.   Welcome Reception to meet the athletes taking place March 16th at the Haines Sheldon Museum from 4:30-6:30 pm.  Everyone welcome!

  • April, 2018- "Big Air Competition, at the Chilkat Pass
    Held annually near the Three Guardsmen Mountain in British Columbia.  Skiers and snowboarders compete in three divisions; beginner, intermediate and advanced and judged on their air, style and landing.  For more information call 907-303-0101.

  • June, 2018 - Farmer's Market, Southeast Alaska State Fair Grounds
    Organization providing a place for growers, chefs, and artisans to sell homegrown produce, homemade cuisine, and handmade products to the area.  Open on Saturdays through mid-September 10 am - 1 pm.

    From Haines Junction, YT to Haines, AK.  148.8 miles along Kluane National Park, Tatshenshini Alsek

    Join us for the 1st Annual Chilkat Challenge Triathlon - 8 mile paddle Mosquito Lake to Chilkat River, 21 mile cylce through the Bald Eagle Preserve to Haines and finish with an 8 mile run from Haines to the Chilkat State Park.  For more information go to www.chilkatchallengetriathlon.com
     
  • July, 2018 - Baking Competition, Southeast State Fair-Harriet Hall
    Annual baking competition and live auction!  This year is "anything chocolate", prizes and ribbons for adult and youth categories, complete rules here.

  • October through January - Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve Gathering
    World's largest congregation of American Bald Eagles. Up to 4000 eagles gather along the banks of the Chilkat River to feast on spawning salmon.

  • October, 2017 - "Trick or Trot" 5K Fun Run or Walk, SE Alaska State Fairgrounds
    Presented by the Fair and SEARHC and starts 5:30 pm at the Fairgrounds.   Costumes encouraged.  Fire pit, hot drinks, fun music and lights, entry is $10.

  • November, 2017 - Annual Lighting of the Library Fundraiser, Haines Borough Public Library
    Sponsored by the Friends of the Haines Borough Library.  Kick off the winter season from 4-6 pm, with friends and family, music, refreshments, art project for kids, and of course, the lighting of the tree.  If you would like to help with the decorating of the library, the elves could use your help.  Call 907-766-2545 for more information. www.haineslibrary.org

    A wonderful community variety show surely to delight both young and old and bring Christmas cheer to all.  The show will start promptly at 4 pm.
     
  • December, 2017- Annual Community Christmas Celebration throughout December
    Throughout December there are activities for everyone.  Write a letter to Santa and drop at the Post Office, enter your cookies and candies in the contest, visit the Haines Sheldon Museum to get pictures with Santa.  Mrs. Claus will be at the Library for stories and songs, and get an early start on your holiday shopping.   The parade goes down Main Street and the Haines Uglys put on The Gifts for Grub toy drive at the American Legion.
     
  • December, 2017- Haines Community Education Holiday Bazaar, Elementary School
    Locally made items and treasures for that special someone, 10 am - 2 pm.  Call John at 907-766-6727 or email communityed@hbsd.net for details or reserve a table. 
     
  • December, 2017 - Lighting of the Fort, Fort Seward Parade Grounds
    At 5 pm, sharp, the great canon blasts and Fort Seward lights up with Christmas lights.  Then follows the fireworks, a Christmas Tableau and music of the season.  Join an old-fashioned bonfire, weenie roast.  Hope for snow for the sledding party and get the Christmas spirit going.
